Ketna Patel is a prolific British-Indian multimedia artist whose practice unfolds
across continents and disciplines, blurring the boundaries between art, design, culture, and utility. Born in East Africa, educated in the UK, and shaped by over two decades in Southeast Asia and India, she brings a deeply tri-cultural
lens to her work—one that translates lived experience into what she describes
as an evolving global anthropology. With formal training in Interior Design and
Architecture, her compositions are both structurally informed and visually
exuberant, merging mythology, politics, history, and popular culture into
layered narratives that reflect the complexities of contemporary life. For
Patel, there is no separation between art and living; her work flows seamlessly
into objects, spaces, and everyday environments, transforming the domestic and the functional into carriers of meaning.
Her work has been exhibited widely in museums, galleries, and art fairs internationally, including the Singapore Art Museum and the Esplanade, and is held in both institutional and private collections such as the Salsali Private Museum in Dubai. A recipient of the ASEAN Art Award and a familiar media presence in Singapore through television and radio, Patel has also collaborated with global figures and brands, including the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), filmmaker Spike Lee, SONY, ADA Austria, and AllDressedUp.
Her commissioned works span industries—from transforming a Tata Nano into a
mosaic artwork using Italian SICIS glass, to creating large-scale public art such as the Elephant Parade, and designing for hospitality spaces across Singapore and the UK.
Alongside her studio practice, Patel’s research into the rural–urban divide has become a significant thread in her work. In the last 15 years, she initiated and participated in cross-cultural village projects across India and the UK, exploring the impact of globalisation on identity, populism, and nationhood in regions such as Wales, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and most recently Gujarat – her ancestral home . These projects, widely documented and discussed, inform her ongoing interest in bridging ancestral knowledge with contemporary life—an inquiry that now extends into her foundation work in Dharmaj, her mother's ancestral village in Gujarat.
Her recent exhibitions, including REMIXOLOGY at the Heath Robinson Museum in London, continue to expand this dialogue, presenting works that collapse time, geography, and hierarchy into a single visual field. By juxtaposing deities with political figures, everyday people with cultural icons, Patel challenges traditional notions of art and its place in society. Her practice, much like early Pop artists, confronts elitist
assumptions—yet goes further, embedding art into the fabric of daily life. In doing so, she positions creativity not just as expression, but as a form of
resistance, cultural preservation, and a means of reimagining how we live.
