'Keep calm and curry on' Limited edition (100) Art tray
In this painting, the divine and the domestic converge in a vibrant portrayal of Goddess Amba (also popularly known as Durga), reimagined as a modern-day housewife. This painting stands as a testament to the multifaceted prowess of women, encapsulating the essence of femininity that is at once gentle and fiercely powerful. Each of the goddess's many arms, a hallmark of her mythological iconography, busily engages with the myriad tasks of daily life, symbolizing the extraordinary versatility and capability that women embody in their everyday roles. Set against the backdrop of an ordinary kitchen, the mundane setting is transformed into a sacred space where the divine feminine principle, or Prakriti, manifests through the routine. The presence of a roaring tigress on the kitchen counter beneath the figure of the woman-housewife-Goddess amalgamates the symbol of the protector and the nurturer, highlighting the intrinsic strength and resilience of women. This powerful imagery serves as a reminder of the hidden depths of power, wisdom, and fierceness that lie within the domestic sphere, often overlooked by societal norms. In this composition, the lines between mythology and the everyday are blurred, pushing the viewer to recognize the omnipresence of divine energy in all aspects of life. By placing Goddess Durga within the context of contemporary womanhood, the artist invites us to honor and acknowledge the divine energy residing within us, urging a re-evaluation of the roles and contributions of women. The depiction challenges the traditional narratives of femininity, presenting it as a complex blend of sensitivity and immense strength, akin to the tigress that is both nurturing and formidable. Through this compelling piece, Ketna not only celebrates the divine essence of womanhood but also provocatively comments on the societal underestimation of women’s everyday labours. The painting becomes a vibrant ode to the Goddess in every woman, a reminder of their inherent divinity, resilience, and the powerful duality of being gentle yet fierce, sensitive yet powerful—a true embodiment of the Goddess Amba in the fabric of modern life.
